I had the great pleasure of working with Aaron during my time at Middle Tennessee State University. In the short time we worked together, I found a willing conspirator for my sometimes-mathematically-complicated barre exercises, in the interest of engaging my dance students' intellect during 8 am ballet classes.
Aaron's improvisational skill is unmatched, as he always found a way to reflect not only the mood of the movement, but tap into the energy of the room – whether to provide a counterbalance or to provide buoyancy.
His sensitive playing and the mischievous twinkle in his eyes never failed to lift my heart, and I miss the rapport we developed.
Music for Dance Selections
-
The building of a loop in a dance class.
-
Piece that was composed in a week during a rep class given by David Dorfman Dance. It features a loop that has guitar, bass, and other electronic sounds recorded throughout the week and myself live performing drum set and manipulating the loop to interact with the dancers and choreography.
-
A quick intro to That You Have, an evening-length work choreographed by Marsha Barsky in collaboration with the dancers of Company Rose.
The piece was also in collaboration with an exhibit at The Frist entitled
Phantom Bodies.
-
The entire performance of That You Have from one camera angle. This footage was provided by The Frist.
-
A discussion of the work occurred after the performance. I have extracted the moments where the audience had questions regarding the role of music.
-
A final short video of myself laying guitar down on a loop in class.
